David Crockett DS 1830 DS 1p 7.75 x 9.75 in. Washington 24 Feb. 1830. To Hon. William T. Barry signed by Tho. Chilton David Crockett and Joseph LeCompte. Crockett represented Tennessee the other two Kentucky. The letter informs the Honorable Mr. Barry that these men recommend Mathew Lyon for an appointment as clerk in the Post Office Department. Crockett was an unsuccessful candidate in 1824 but was elected to the House of Representatives as a Jacksonian in 1826. He became an anti-Jacksonian and was elected as such in 1828. He was unsuccessful in 1830 but elected again in 1832. After another unsuccessful campaign in 1834 he made his way to Texas late the following year and lost his life on March 6 1836 at the Alamo. Condition: Expected folds. Minor toning along the right edge and on back center.

Condition:
Book 1: Rebound in 20th century in full leather. New endpapers (old free endpapers seem to be present), stamped boards, compartments, new label. Text in good condition with minimal toning. Book 2: Original publisher's cloth, worn, label gone, soiling and dampstaining. Text has some foxing, three pages with closed tears and tape repair, a couple of signatures pulled slightly, a bit of underlining and penciled personal index on rear endpapers. Book 3: Rebound in 20th century in full leather. New endpapers (old free endpapers seem to be present). Deaccession stamp on old free endpaper. Pages show minimal toning and foxing. Text clean and text block square.

Kirkland's Cheyenne Wyoming imprint on mount recto and printed list of titles from Views of Cow-boy Life on verso titled in the negative No. 18 ''Jim Kid.'' Jim ''Kid'' Willoughby (1857-1916) was a working cowboy who joined Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show in 1885. He married Lillian Smith Annie Oakley's rival sharpshooter the same year a became a star in his own right but achieved his greatest fame after transitioning to silent films. Condition: Light edge wear else very good.

12 CONFEDERATE CDVS INCL. WALTER BOWIECDVS of ten Civil War Confederate Generals plus CSA Captain Walter Bowie of Virginia and Tennessee. Images include Kirby Smith, John Hunt Morgan, Thomas J. Jackson (a.k.a. Stonewall Jackson ), Sidney A. Johnston, Joseph Wheeler, Wade Hampton, Felix K. Zollicoffer (note misspelling on card), Joseph E. Johnston, Robert E. Lee (clipped), G.P.T. Beauregard, and Confederate States of America President Jefferson Davis, together with a photographic CDV of Captain Walter Bowie of the Virginia Volunteers. Bowie, originally of Port Royal, Virginia, moved to Nashville in 1879. His children donated land to the city of Fairview, Tennessee, which is now known as Bowie Nature Park; these CDVs descended in the family. All approximately 3 1/2" H x 2 1/2" W. ANTIQUE CABINET CARD REFERENCING CRAZY SNAKELate 19th/early 20th C. black and white standing portrait of a man in traditional Native American Indian garb wearing a full feather headdress, bow and arrow held in front of him, carrying a dreamcatcher, and having what appears to be a rifle sling. Front of card is stamped Lee Davis, Souvenir. Weatherford Oklahoma. Back is inscribed with an illegible name and "Crazy Snake's right hand man." Crazy Snake, Chitto Harjo in his native tongue, was known for leading the Crazy Snake Uprising. The peak of the 1901 rebellion came after repeated attempts by the Creek Native American Indians to negotiate for the preservation of traditional customs and laws in response to the allotments being made by the American government as settlers moved West. Overall approx. 4-1/4" L x 6-3/8 H. See images for detail. This item can be shipped in-house.
