CHILDE HASSAM EASTHAMPTON ETCHING
CHILDE HASSAM EASTHAMPTON ETCHING New York, Massachusetts,1859-1935Depicts a row of trees beside a picket fence and open field. Hassam studied art at the Lowell Institute and the Boston Art Club under Ignaz Gaugengigl, a German born painter known for his genre and aristocratic paintings. In 1883, Hassam exhibited at the Williams & Everett Gallery in Boston before travelling with is wife to France. While in France, Hassam studied at the Academie Julian under Louis Boulanger and Jules Lefebvre but ultimately rejected the academy's teachings. Hassam then became a founder of the Ten American Painters group from 1898-1918 and settled in New York.
