NEW ENGLAND FEDERAL INLAID CARD TABLEFederal mahogany demilune card table with mixed secondary woods. Rectangular hinged top with cut corners and inlaid at the edge, central shell flanked by shaped string inlay on the skirt, diamond and tombstone line inlay on the stiles, and line and banded inlay on the tall tapering legs. 28 3/4" H x 36 1/2" W x 35 5/8" D. Early 19th century.

Condition:
Overall general use wear, older refinish. Top leaf with sun fading, scattered wood shrinkage, poor repairs to inlay of one leg stile (this leg is loose, suggesting a replaced facing to cover an old repair to the leg), scattered wear to table edges. One rear leg slightly bowed.

SHERATON ADAM STYLE PAINTED MAHOGANY DEMILUNE GAMES TAB...Sheraton Adam style mahogany inlaid and painted demilune card table, the rear-hinged top leaf painted with central floral medallion and foliate scrolling, flanked by urns with floral bouquets having ivy surround. Green felt-lined interior, line inlaid top and painted skirt with alternating foliate swags with bouquets issuing from horns and urns. Two stationary legs and two fly legs, all with painted decoration and ring turnings, tapering to arrow feet. 29 1/4" H x 35 1/2" W x 17 1/8" D (closed) or 34 1/4" D (open). English, 19th century.

Condition:
Scattered minor surface wear including scratches and loss measuring 1/4" x 3/8" to veneer. One gateleg with minute loss of veneer at top measuring 1/2" x 1/4". Slight wear to interior felt lining including discoloration and loss measuring 7/8" x 1/4".

Has some veneer loss and cracking to front skirt, top of legs. Interior has some edge water staining. Scratches to the top, some wobble.Provenance: Property of a Massachusetts Institution.
