ADOLF DIETRICH CHILDREN ILLUSTRATIVE DRAWING Switzerland,1877-1957Depicts two young boys at a table beside two older boys with an open book laid before them while one figure stares at a document. Dietrich is a widely self taught artist using his home life and nature as subjects for his work. He managed to gain some recognition through illustration work for the "Bodensee Book," however he was discovered by Herbert Tannenbaum, a well known art dealer, and held his first solo exhibition in 1922.

Max Kalish (American 1891-1945) A painted plaster bust of David Dietz in dark brown color pigments over the plaster to resemble bronze signature incised into the upper part of the pedestal base "M. Kalish 1939 " the life-size bust is atop a slightly tapered cube self-base with a plinth below.David Dietz (1897-1984) was a Pulitzer Prize-winning science journalist and author. Dietz attended Case Western Reserve University and received his bachelor's degree in 1919. In 1921 he took a position as science editor for the Scripps-Howard Newspapers a job he kept until his retirement in 1977. From 1927 until his retirement he was a lecturer in general science at his alma mater. Dietz was a member of the Publicity Committee of the United States National Research Council's Division of Medical Science and of Harvard University's Institute on War Problems and was a consultant to the U. S. Army Surgeon General from 1944 to 1947. He served as science correspondent for NBC News from 1940-1950 and was heard on Morgan Beatty News of the World over 181 stations.

2 GERMAN PORCELAIN PLAQUES DIETRICHGroup of two German porcelain plaques. One painted after Nathaniel Sichel (German, 1843-1907) with an Orientalist depiction of a dancing girl, one arm raised, bearing a tambourine. Signed L. Dietrich along the lower right. With an impressed mark "107" and inscription reading "Fatme nach N. Sichel." The other porcelain plaque is painted after a work by by Charles Landelle (French, 1821-1908), depicting the Old Testament Biblical figure Ruth in a field of corn. She is dressed simply in a grey dress, white headwrap, and carrying a wheat sheaf under her arm. She holds the viewers gaze, and stands before a sunset. Both plaques are housed in Rococo style giltwood frames.
