  Christian Dior Cocktail Dress, Jacket and Belt, ca. 1957-1967, the brown silk dress with a jewel neckline and long sleeves, the vertical pleats stitched across the bust area, the dress with a fitted waist with dropped yoke and zig-zag tiny pleats at the skirt yoke, the pleated skirt falls softly from the yoke, skirt l. 26-1/2", waist 26", hips 36-3/4"; the brown, green and gold brocade jacket and cord belt feature mink collar and cuffs, and self-covered buttons with bound buttonholes, labeled "Christian Dior London", condition: good.

Both pieces labeled "Christian Dior Paris / Printemps-Ete 1965 / 127069" and "127070," respectively. Also with a large "pearl" and rhinestone brooch, possibly original to the ensemble. It is in good condition, the very fine chiffon is quite strong but has oxidized / darkened somewhat in the skirt, but not in an unattractive way; the brooch has some of the pearlized enamel lifting from the front; the hang-straps have been replaced. The jacket is in very good condition.

  Dior Dress and Three-Piece Group of Chloe Cocktail Clothes, the Christian Dior, a natural linen tunic dress with side-pleated surplus style, the zipper in the center back, trimmed with black glass beads and bangles at the neck and cuffs, size 10 -12, "Christian Dior" label, ca. 1970's, good condition, one spot in front, cleanable; the Chloe group consisting of a navy silk daytime to night suit, the jacket with dolman-style long sleeves with cuffs turned back, breast pocket, and turn-back collar open to a gathered waistband with ties, the navy skirt with kick pleat on the right side and two pockets, "Chloe Made in France" label; along with an off-white full skirt with waistband hook and eyes, size 40 (6), "Chloe 40 Made in France for Bergdorf Goodman" label, ca. 1960's, size 4 - 6, good condition. Christian Dior (1905-1957) opened the Parisian House of Dior just after the end of World War II. He rocked the fashion world with his "New Look" in 1947 with small waists, flared skirts and voluminous evening dresses. Although he produced only three collections for the ten years he was in business, women learned to dress for morning, afternoon, cocktail and evening through his tutelage. His successor, Yves St. Lauent (1936-2008) continued the fine tradition begun by Dior. Chloe was a French fashion house formed in 1956 in Paris by Gaby Aghion (b. 1921) and her partner Jacques Lenoir, and was taken over by Karl Lagerfeld (b. 1933) in 1971. The feminine image and French tradition for women's clothes continues today with Chloe through its successors Stella McCartney (b. 1971, daughter of the Beatles' Paul McCartney) and Phoebe Philo (b. 1973).
