WILD VINE BEAR CANECa.
WILD VINE BEAR CANECa. 1900-Fashioned of one straight wild vine branch with extreme quirky grown protuberances and a naturally widening top carved with a full-bodied bear. The bulky animal is rendered naturalistically with a finely engraved surface suggesting a thick and shaggy fur and characterized by four broad paws, powerful limbs and a short tail as well as small head with long snout and round ears betraying acute senses of smell and hearing. Brimming with seductive powers, this cane survived in its integral entirety with a metal ferrule and is empowered by a rich and dark age patina. It is great to use or add to a displayed collection. The motif of the bear came into fashion in Western Europe with the emerging Russian taste in the middle of the 19th century. In northern countries, it replaces the lion as king of the beasts and represents power and warfare. H. 1 ½” x 1 ¾”, O.L. 35 ¾”
