Provenance: Obtained directly from a collection of historical paper items -- from the Ashfield, Skaats and McNeal families of New York -- none of which has ever been offered for sale. Several lots of these papers, including historically important pieces, are being offered in today's auction. The family, represented in several of the items in the collection, owned land directly adjacent to Wall Street, and some of the pieces refer to these parcels.

NEW YORK DOCUMENTS, 1756-1809Three documents, including the last will and testament of Tobias Ashfield (1756), an indenture to apprentice under a baker by Ashfield's son (1770) and court summons from 1809, signed by the sheriff of New York, Benjamin Ferris. The papers all have unmended splits.
Provenance: Obtained directly from a collection of historical paper items -- from the Ashfield, Skaats and McNeal families of New York -- none of which has ever been offered for sale. Several lots of these papers, including historically important pieces, are being offered in today's auction.
