• "SEARCH LIGHT" BICYCLE LANTERN,
  "SEARCH LIGHT" BICYCLE LANTERN, NIB, 1896A rare, apparently never used, in original box, bicycle lantern made by the Bridgeport Brass Co. in Bridgeport, Conn. An original 1896 ad for them shows this exact lantern for sale for $5 (actually a LOT of money back then). All parts appear to be in the box. including a small sheet of paper with instructions that you can leave the frame attached to the bike and easily remove the lantern part for safe inside storage. There is a wick adjustment, so this must be a kerosene burner. The colorful box also says it can be used as a dash lantern (apparently for a wagon dashboard). The lamp is about 5" tall and 3" wide, plating still bright, and near-new appearance. The box has printing on all sides. Sides are in very good shape. The top panel has some damage and has a number of short tears and cracks; something heavy and pointed was placed on it long ago. Tears have been repaired and strengthened as much as possible. A very rare piece in this condition!
