MCCLELLAND BARCLAY ROMANTIC COUPLE PAINTING Missouri, New York, California,1891-1943Depicts a realistic couple with a man gently caressing a woman's cheek against a pale blue background. Barclay is known for his beautiful depictions of women, having done illustrations for Colliers, Country Gentleman, Redbook, Pictorial Review, Coronet, Country Life, Saturday Evening Post, The Ladies' Home Journal, Cosmopolitan and numerous other magazines. Tom Fogarty and George Bridgeman were his most influential teachers at the Art Students League and encouraged him to go into illustration where he created the iconic Barclay's Fisher Body Girl.
