1904 $20 GOLD LIBERTY HEAD DOUBLE EAGLE PCGS MS61One 1904 twenty dollar gold coin featuring on the obverse the bust of Lady Liberty encircled by 13 stars with the year below her head. The reverse depicts a spread-winged eagle with a halo of stars that surrounded "IN GOD WE TRUST" and further surrounded by "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA TWENTY DOLLARS". Graded by PCGS as MS 61 indicating a mint state coin with a weak or average strike and no trace of wear.
Designed by James Barton Longacre (American, 1794-1869). Longacre was the fourth Chief Engraver of the United States Mint until his death. His design and the production of the first double eagle coins coincided with the 1849 California Gold Rush. This design was the precursor for the $20 Saint-Gaudens double eagle.
