CHINESE EXPORT SILVER TEA SERVICE AND TRAYChinese Export Silver dragon tea service and silver inlaid wood tray. Tea set with coffee and tea pot, open sugar and creamer, all with raised writhing dragon designs and bamboo form handles, and a waste bowl and sugar tongs, both with applied prunus blossoms and bird decoration. Waste bowl, sugar and creamer have gilt washed interiors. All with .90 purity marks and WH marks attributed to Wang Hing, working Hong Kong, late 19th-early 20th century. Dragon items have Aesthetic Movement style monogram WH and the sugar tongs have Aesthetic Movement style monogram OW. Coffee pot 8 3/4"H. Combined weight all 6 pieces, 62.31 oz troy. Late 19th century. Together with a silver-inlaid hardwood tray having applied hammered silver corner guards, the center inlaid with silver wire border and clouds, large dragon and phoenix. Silver bamboo form handles, 1 with illegible mark (possibly CHINA). 22" x 16" excluding handles. Circa 1900. Provenance: the estate of Mary Alice Clements, Nashville, TN.
Condition:
Tea service: Excellent condition with some small age-related cracks to ferrules on pots and light wear to gilt linings on creamer and sugar. Finial to tea pot may be a replacement. Tray: 2 strips of silver border and silver phoenix have come loose but are retained; approx. 2" total missing wire inlay. Some shrinkage to corners and small area of wood loss to underside of 1 foot.
