  3 PORCELAIN "MANSION HOUSE DWARFS," INCL. DERBYSet of three (3) European porcelain figures, including Royal Crown Derby, all attired in bright polychrome decorated Renaissance style costumes with large hats and depicted standing on naturalistic round bases. The largest figure with Royal Crown Derby mark to the underside together with incised numbers and the smaller ones with purple D mark, possibly for Edme Samson. Ranging in size from 5 5/8" H to 6 1/2" H. Note: These figures were originally created by Robert Bloor for Derby, and were inspired from a series of drawings by Jacques Callot's entitled, "Grosteque Dwarves." According to history, the figures were actually real-life persons of short stature who were hired to stand outside of the Mansion House in London wearing advertisements on their large hats. Condition: Largest figure overall good condition, breaks to one leaf on the base and possible repair to lower stomach, firing flaw to underside of base. Smallest figure with paint flake to lower stomach, hairline to underside, and firing flaws to underside. Remaining figure overall very good condition.
