The House Judiciary Committee began impeachment proceedings that same day, and Nixon resigned about two weeks later, on August 8.

Fine George III Gillows secretary, upper case with inlaid cornice and Gothic mullions, two doors opening to adjustable shelved interior, lower case with two highly figured mahogany doors with rosewood banding opening to fitted secretary drawer with false double front over three long drawers and flanked by ten short drawers, all with dovetailed linings, original brass hardware and "J. Bramah Patent" locks on upper and lower doors and secretary drawer, British, possibly by Gillows, circa 1795, 100 x 52 x 16-1/2 in. Good condition overall, mellow brown color with minor sun fading, patches and losses to front corners of lower case, minor losses to moldings including inlaid cornice, minor break to one glazed panel, chip and loss to top corner of one lower door, other minor losses and repairs, some brasses lacking backplates, original base moldings with scattered patches and losses, possibly lacking interior prospect section.
