Condition:
1st item: Older refinish, burn mark on top edge, left front leg with some wear/abrasion, back of drawer appears to be late 19th century replacement. 2nd item: Some slight wear to jacket, minute losses to corner. Some interior toning and spotting to pages.

1st item: Two large chips to rim and one smaller chip to base. Bung marks to rim, side and base. 2nd item: Overall general wear. Bung marks and glase run to upper shoulder area. Area near base without glaze. One chip near base. Couple minor shallow chips to body.

TN INLAID CORNER CUPBOARDEast Tennessee, Blount County, inlaid corner cupboard with cove molded cornice and string inlaid freize over two paneled upper and lower doors, each with curved-corner string inlay; medial molding, bracket feet with line inlay and a serpentine skirt. Inlaid escutcheons. Interior has two shelves in upper section and one shelf in lower section. Straight back returns. Yellow pine and poplar secondary wood. 83" H x 43 1/2" W (cornice width) x 24 1/2" D. Friendsville (Blount Co., TN) history. CIrca 1820.
Condition:
Older refinish, half of lower right foot facing later replacement, minor wear.

EARLY MILITARY SWORD OF ALEXANDER
EARLY MILITARY SWORD OF ALEXANDER MICMILLAN, TENNESSEEEarly military sword with the leather scabbard, descended from the family of Alexander McMillan, Knox County, Tennessee. War of 1812 or earlier sword and scabbard with the saber having an eagle pommel, pierced and engraved guard, ribbed bone grip, the ricasso unmarked and false blade side marked with a "Z", the blade with foliate leaves and vines with flowers. An American shield is faintly visible on one side of the blade.The leather scabbard retains the original brass hardware and ring, sewn leather seam. 35" length of sword. Note: Alexander McMillan (1749-1837) was one of the first settlers in Knox County in 1783 with Robert Love, Francis Ramsey, and James White. He settled in the Strawberry Plains area of Knox County. Born in County Derry, Ireland in 1749, he immigrated to America in 1775 and joined the Continental Army shortly after arriving. He fought in Quebec and the Battle of King's Mountain in South Carolina. During the War of 1812, McMillan participated in the Battle of New Orleans as a sergeant under Colonel Edwin Booth of the East Tennessee Militia. Provenance: Private Knoxville, TN collection.

Sword blade with pitting mid-blade, bone grip loose, brass hardware on scabbard loose, the brass drag tip lost.

EAST TN WALNUT TALL CHEST, GAUT FAMILY HISTORYEast Tennessee walnut tall chest, possibly Knox County. Elaborate ogee cornice, bank of three over two drawers over four graduated drawers, ogee base molding, raised on tall bracket feet with carved returns. All drawers are dovetailed with lip molded edges and appear to retain the original brasses. Poplar secondary wood. 62 1/4" H x 39 1/2" W x 21" D. Provenance - Alfred T. Gaut estate, Knoxville, TN. Gaut's grandfather was a Knoxville postmaster in the late 19th century.
Condition:
Old refinish. Backboards reset, couple of breaks to drawer corners, couple of old patches, a more contemporary finished board covers the original top, breaks to feet facings, missing and replaced blocks.

Barber pole inlaid frieze over four graduated drawers with tear drop inlaid escutcheons, surmounted by vine, leaf, and tulip inlay; the corners inlaid with alternating light and dark quarter fans; the base with barber pole inlay transitioning to a shaped skirt with alternating inlaid semicircular fan with radiating diamond inlays and vines terminating in alternating inlaid quarter fans. Splayed feet with inlaid oval lozenges, sides with shaped inlaid semicircular fans. Federal eagle brasses. Poplar secondary wood. 35 3/4" H x 39 1/2" W x 20 1/2" W. Provenance: Fletcher family of East Tennessee; Riceville, TN collection.
Condition:
Older refinish, appears to retain the original brasses and locks. Interior drawer supports replaced and some of the drawer sides built up, two old symmetrical veneer patches on each side of the top (unless by design), backboards reset with a couple of patches to rodent chew, Older repair to veneer facings on front feet and tip of lower back foot facing, small patch to divider over top drawer escutcheon.

Crochet quilt has light wear and fading. Penny/Coin quilt has some frayed seams, overall very good condition. Crazy quilt has a large brown spot and some scattered staining.

THOMAS CAMPBELL SMALL OIL & 2 EARLY CARRYING BASKETS1st item: Attributed to Thomas Campbell (Tennessee, 1834-1914) oil on board mountain scene with two figures, signed "Quist" lower right. Sight: 3-5/8" H x 6-1/2" W, Framed: 4-3/4" H x 7-5/8" W. Biography: Thomas Campbell immigrated to the U.S. at age 19 and was originally ordained as a minister. After his wife's death in 1892, he retired and turned to art. He founded the art department at Maryville College in 1902 and headed it until his death. His paintings were exhibited regionally and won several prizes and medals. He was also active in the Nicholson Art League, and was a talented wood carver who produced picture frames and small pieces of furniture. Campbell mostly painted pastoral landscapes. His adopted daughter Elizabeth Quist "finished" many of his paintings after his death in 1914. 2nd item: Two (2) East Tennessee small oak splint carrying baskets in an old patinated surface, the larger basket with alternating curl folded weavers on the outer sides of the basket. Larger basket 7"H x 10"L, the smaller carrying basket, 5"H x 7"L. Early 20th century.
Condition:
1st item: Scattered discoloration to varnish layer upper right quadrant. 2nd item: Larger carrying basket with losses to weavers on approximately half of the rim.

TN LAND GRANT SIGNED BY SAM HOUSTONSam Houston signed Tennessee land grant July 2nd, 1828, granting 100 acres in Cocke County (East Tennessee) to Isaac Allen. Large signature for Sam Houston in the space for the Governorís signature. Sam Houstonís term lasted until 1829 when he resigned and moved to Texas. Houston later became the President and Governor of Texas. 12_ x 14 3/8_, framed 18_ x 21 1/2_.

GREENE CO. TN CIVIL WAR DOCUMENTS
GREENE CO. TN CIVIL WAR DOCUMENTS INCL. WOUNDED LISTEast Tennessee grouping of documents relating to Greene County during the Civil War. 1st grouping - includes a 1866 listing of Union soldiers applying for a certificate of disability in East Tennessee. Included in the description is the type of wound or malady, where they were discharged, and occasionally the battle where the injury occurred. An example entry, "May 7th 1866 - Capt. David Fry - Co. F 2nd Tenn Regt Mounted Inft - Discharged Annapolis Md 27th March 1865 - disease wound - Pension total - probably permanent - Residence Greeneville Tenn". Note - Capt. David Fry arranged the November 1861 burning of the railroad bridge over Lick Creek in western Greene County. The potter, Christopher Alexander Haun, was executed by Confederates for his participation in this event. Fry was captured by Confederates at least twice and was shot on three different occasions. While most are Civil War related, there is a Corporal Jesse Spears of Hawkins Co. applying for disability from wounds encountered in the War of 1812, Captain Gillenwater Company, Tenn Militia. The last written page is receipt adjustments for Saml (?sp) Doak. Approximately 57 soldiers from East Tennessee listed. 2nd grouping - Extensive grouping of papers relating to legal depositions and other documents recording the theft of horses and a sabre by Confederate soldiers in Greene County, TN. David Sevier is the administrator for George Jones (plaintiff) and W.E. Keller (defendant). Also included is an early invitation to the Freshman Hop given to the Graduating Class of the University of Tennessee in 1878. The invitation reads "E.T.U. Lamar House" with a vignette of marching Union soldiers above the letters. In 1879, the state legislature changed the name from East Tennessee University to the University of Tennessee.
Condition:
1st grouping - general toning, soot on edges, some pages detached, some of the last pages with water staining. 2nd grouping - general toning, stains, creases, but all appears legible.

Items 1 & 2 -Two (2) child chairs, the first having an old, dark surface, arched slats, turned arms, split oak seat, and tapered feet, The second child chair with an older refinish, shaped upper slat, tapered arms, split oak seat. One measures 23 1/8" H x 14 3/4" W x 9 1/2" D. The other: 24 1/4" H x 15" W x 11 1/2" D. Both chairs 1st half of the 19th century. 3rd item - Weaver chair with teardrop finials and three arched arched slats, tapered feet, and newer split oak seat. 34 1/4" H x 17" W x 13 1/4" D. Second half of the 19th century. Provenance - Yates estate, Greeneville, Tennessee.

Items 1 & 2 - Both chairs with wear to the finials, second chair with older refinish having broken lower slat, losses to feet, 3rd item - replaced split oak seat.

Consisting of a lift top with an ogee molding, paneled front and sides, lower dovetailed drawer with scratch beaded front, brass pulls, base ogee molding, tapered feet. Yellow pine secondary. 27 1/2"H x 29 1/8"W x 26 1/2"D. Second quarter 19th century. 2nd item - Small cherry one drawer stand with beveled edge drawer front and dovetailed drawer, turned legs. Poplar secondary. 28"H x 20 7/8"W x 19"D. Second quarter 19th century. Provenance: Yates estate, Greeneville, Tennessee.
Condition:
1st item - refinished, minor abrasions to surface, screws securing top underside modern. 2nd item - refinished throughout, screws securing top modern, apron is not the exact length on each side and base is not fastened completely square to top, possibly indicating table has been reworked.

Hinged fly legs. Inside apron is yellow pine. Chalk inscription: "Flora Wilson, Bulls ___(?)". Possibly Bulls Gap, Hawkins County. 29 1/2"H x 41 1/2"L x 20"D. Second quarter of the 19th century. Condition:
1st item - Refinished, age separation/crack to apron on left lower side of drawer. 2nd item - Older surface, top matches nail pattern for base but possibly an early replacement, drawer of yellow pine is also possibly a later 19th century replacement.
