Labels en verso for Wally Findlay Gallery and Galerie Rienzo, New York. 17-1/2" x 25" sight, 26" x 33" framed. Provenance: private Nashville, TN collection; purchased from Galerie Rienzo circa 1997. Accompanied by a 1997 certificate from that gallery stating insurance value of $33,000, and note from Robert Rienzo certifying authenticity. Biography: French Impressionist painter Elisse Maclet was born the son of a peasant gardener, and was taught to paint by the sexton of his parish church. After arriving in Paris, he gained acclaim with his colorful landscapes and a patron eventually encouraged him to paint in the South of France. Maclet enjoyed acclaim during his lifetime but also suffered from a mental illness that took a toll on his career. He was honored with a retrospective in 1957 in Paris, shortly before his death.
