ENOCH WOOD WHITE STONEWARE BLUE-GROUND LARGE OVAL PLAQUE, 'THE DESCENT FROM THE CROSS'ENOCH WOOD WHITE STONEWARE BLUE-GROUND LARGE OVAL PLAQUE, 'THE DESCENT FROM THE CROSS', circa 1777, the foreground inscribed 'Enoch Wood Sculpt.', based off a painting in the Louvre titled, La Descente de Croix (1697) by Jean Jouvenet, in white relief with Christ being lowered from the Crucifix, at the top of the Cross is a scroll inscribed 'JESUS OF NAZARETH KING OF THE JEWS', reserved on an enameled blue ground, h: 20.25 in., framed Provenance: Sara & Samuel Laver Collection. Skinner, Boston, 14 July 2018, sale 3115B, lot 225. Jeffrey Milkins Collection no. 927.
