Jan von Neesen (Austrian, 18th Century) A portrait miniature, oil on ivory, set on the lid of a snuff box, signed at the right J. V Neesen, depicting a beautiful young woman in 18th century costume. The portrait is glazed with a glass lens surrounded by a gold bezel, inset in the tortoise shell lid. The interior is also clad in gold metal. The subject bears a strong resemblance to other portraits of the Marquise de Sevigne, known for her memoirs during the reign of Louis XIV. Overall it measures approx. 3-1/4"D x 1"H. Provenance: purchased from The Norton Galleries, 1975.

French Gilt-Brass-Mounted Fond Jaune Porcelain Encrier, first quarter 20th century, of seau form in the Louis XVI Sevres style, the body detailed in blue with an oval polychromed floral reserve at either facade, the brass mount fitted with an inkwell, a pair of stylus wells, an oblong hand seal well and a taper socket, signed on the base in overglaze pale blue with a pseudo-Sevres interlaced "L's" cartouche, the date letter for 1780, and "Sevres", h. 4", dia. 4".
