EUSTACE P. ZIEGLER, ON THE TANANA RIVER, OIL/BOARD Eustace P. Ziegler (American, 1881-1969) "On the Tanana River" oil on canvas board, dedicated at lower left "To Lula (?) Fairbanks / Ziegler" the reverse titled and signed "On the Tanana River / by / Eustace P. Ziegler" likely 1940s or later. Note: The Tanana River is a tributary of the Yukon River in Southeast Fairbanks, Alaska, and a homeland to the Athabaskan people, whose food caches we see in the offered work. Ziegler lived in Alaska before settling permanently in Seattle in 1924. Ziegler returned to Alaska every summer, and along with Sydney Laurence, he is considered the foremost painter of Alaska.
