A circa 1941 photograph signed Franklin Roosevelt at lower right; 7 x 9 in.? Accompanied by the consignor's account of the acquisition of the signature by her late husband Frank in 1942.? As President Roosevelt was on his way to Camp David (then known as Shangri-La) he stopped in Frederick Maryland to meet his friend Judge Pinkney Richardson for ice cream.? The 12-year-old Frank who regularly mowed Judge Richardson's lawn was asked by the judge to go purchase the ice cream while he and the President chatted in a car.? Frank's mother didn't believe the story and went to verify the story with Judge Richardson who assured her it was true and arranged for President Roosevelt's office to mail them this signed photograph as proof. Condition: Very good.

The 8 x 10" black and white photograph shows the President sitting at his desk and wearing bow tie and is inscribed "For Harry" in blue ink; the White House card beneath is signed " Franklin D. Roosevelt " in black ink (3" x 4 1/4"). Both are lightly adhered to a 13" x 8 1/2" ivory colored mat embossed on back Harris & Ewing Washington DC. Photograph also stamped Harris & Ewing en verso. Berryman, Clifford Kennedy (1869-1949), Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoonist, his 1902 cartoon of Theodore Roosevelt refusing to shoot a bear cub was responsible for the Teddy Bear. His son Jim Berryman also won a Pulitzer for editorial cartooning.

Note: Roosevelt was vice president of the Fidelity and Deposit Company of Maryland in charge of New York, New Jersey, and New England from 1921 until 1928.
