Raphael Gleitsmann (American
Raphael Gleitsmann (American 1910-1995) "The City III". Oil on masonite signed and dated 1950-51 at the lower right corner framed in a wide gray painted frame overall 49-1/2" x 54". Several hand written labels verso identifying the artist and the painting stating that it was finished in April of 1951 a red tag "Let Dry" and a label from Macbeth Gallery in New York where the artist exhibited his paintings. In an interview article in American Artist magazine in 1948 Gleitsmann wrote "The steeples and spires that are found in most of my paintings have been taken as symbols of hope and rebirth."Proceeds to benefit the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center. Cuyahoga Valley Art Center is a non-profit fine arts organization founded in 1934. The mission of the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center is to promote active interest involvement and strengthened appreciation of fine and applied arts within a supportive community for individuals of all ages.
