DENNIS OPPENHEIM STUDY, AND THE MIND GREW FINGERS(New York, 1938-2011)
1983, inscribed upper left "Study For.. And/The Mind Grew Fingers/Steel Frame Electric/Fan. Ribbons/13' x 9' x 9' Project/For. S.F. Calif.", signed lower right "Dennis Oppenheim 1983", graphite, crayon, ink, charcoal, oil wash, and oil pastel on paper, 38-1/4 x 50-1/4 in.; wood frame with acrylic, 39 x 51 in.
Note: Dennis Oppenheim was a pioneer in earthworks and conceptual art. His New York Times Obituary attempts to explain this enigmatic artist stating, "Belonging to a generation of artists who saw portable painting and sculpture as obsolete, Mr. Oppenheim started out in the realm of the esoteric, the immaterial and the chronically unsalable. But he was always a showman, not averse to the circuslike, or to courting danger."
