CHINESE CELADON JADE GOOSE Chinese celadon jade goose, carved in the round with the head of the goose looking forward, the wing and tail feathers incised in details, the webbed feet tucked underneath carved in shallow relief, 5"l. Provenance: Property from the estate of Patricia Moffat Pope, San Francisco, Ca. Patricia married George A. Pope Jr. in 1959 and together they built a Thoroughbred horse racing empire that included 27 stakes winners in the United States and in Europe. Among the many races that they won include the 1962 Kentucky Derby.

This bird has a very delicate feathering pattern (the stippling is heavier on most of his geese), and delineations on its wing tips, something almost never seen on geese. Overall wonderful example worthy of any collection. Unsigned. Identified as "CANADA GOOSE" in pencil on bottom.

Their image is reflected upon the chilly water below The geese do not mean to cast their images on the water; nor does the water mean to hold the image of the geese," with silk brocade mounting, comes together with a presentation box.
