CHINESE BLUE & WHITE CRANE
CHINESE BLUE & WHITE CRANE PLATE,JIAJING PERIOD A Chinese imperial blue and white crane plate, JiaJing mark and of the period(1507-1567) . deep plate sturdily potted, the rounded curved sloping sides rising from a tapered foot, interior with design of four cranes around a central auspicious cloud form, within a circle that followed by a double circle, and six evenly spaces roundels of flower designs. Outside of plate features four flying horses in between four cloud forms. Six blue Chinese character JiaJing mark within a double circle on the base Catalogue note: a dish of this type with a Jiajing reign mark is illustrated in Leopold Reidemeister and J.Hellner,Ming Porzellane in Schwedischen Sammlungen, Berlin,1935,pg .18b.

Condition: in overall good condition with general surface wear and sign of use, scatter glaze skip/ glaze pulls to the center and the back of the plate, especially to one of the horse motif due to the firing imperfection

Six snuff boxes, four tortoise, one wood: one oval tortoise with extensive gold surface decoration with birds surrounded by multiple borders, 3-1/4 in., losses to some inlay, top slightly warped ; one round, wood with reeded decoration, lid with flying horse and Latin motto and gold escutcheon, 2 in., hinge repair ; one rectangular with elaborate floral and vine gold inlay, 3 in., interior abrasions, possible hinge repair ; one rectangular with rounded bottom, barberpole gold and shell border decoration, 3-1/4 in., losses to lid interior at latch ; one rectangular with gold or brass mounts, 3-1/4 in., 3/4 in. crack at hinge, minor chip ; one rectangular with convex bottom, reeded top with gold inlay, 2-1/8 in., losses to interior sleeve at hinge on back , British, 19th century. All with scattered surface abrasions, good condition except as noted.
