MARGO HOFF MIXED MEDIA MODERN FOOTBALL PAINTING New York, Oklahoma, Illinois,1912-2008Figurative work depicting a group of seven children playing football (soccer) around a tree. Titled "Football-Yugoslavia", the painting was executed during her 1939 visit to Europe with her husband in which they visited Holland, France, Italy, Greece and Yugoslavia. Hoff studied art at the National Academy of Art Chicago (1934-1935) and the Art Institute of Chicago (1936-1937) were she focused on capturing modern urbanism utilizing an earth tone color palette. She frequented Mexico throughout the 1930s and 1940s with her husband and fellow artist George Buehr (1905-1983) were she drew influence from Mexican Muralism and the work of Diego Rivera (1886-1957), Jos? Clemente Orozco (1883-1949) and Rufino Tamayo (1899-1991).
