Lydia on the cover, which retains its jacket; the book consists of Forester's learned comments on each of Horatio Hornblower's campaigns, which are augmented with thirty (30) pen and ink full page maps having relevant vignettes in the margins. Of the thirty maps, we offer three of the artist's original boards (18-1/2 x 14-3/8 in.) with tissue overlays bearing editorial instructions. Included are Map 17 (The Mediterranean with the Track of the Atropos); Map 22 (Second Engagement Between Lydia and Natividad); Map 28 (Riga).

Note: On the original frontispiece to Wilson's epic poem The Foresters: A Poem, Descriptive of a Pedestrian Journey to the Falls of Niagara, in the Autumn of 1804 . [Whitefish, Mont.]: [Kessinger Pub.], 2008, is an engraving after this painting with the caption "Painted by John Watson Gordon from the original picture of Wilson in his sister's possession, engraved by W.H. Lizars". It also apparently appears in various editions of Wilson's American Ornithology, the tome that Wilson first published in 1808, and the reason he is considered to be the founder and most important figure in American Ornithology.

A fine George III silver fruit basket Elizabeth Aldridge London 1766 with scroll and floral border having beaded ribbed decoration and pierced quatrefoils and stars the swing handle with similar decoration the pierced base with shell feet crested 41cm (16") wide approximately 2040gm with clear glass linerNote: Elizabeth Aldridge was the widow of silver maker Edward Aldridge who specialised in pierced work particularly baskets. Edward Aldridge was one of the most highly respected basket makers of his time his apprentices included William Plummer. On his death in 1765 his widow Elizabeth continued the business using her own unregistered mark. Provenance: The armorial shows the arms of Forester impaling Townshend and may relate to Lt Col Cecil Forester (c.1737-1774) and his wife Anne Townshend (1741-1825).
