Wear and some losses overall. Scattered rim chips and a few minor cracks. The Formosa platter has been broken and reglued at rim with related losses and hairline crack. Otherwise in good condition.Not withstanding this report or any discussion concerning condition of a lot, all lots are offered and sold "as is" in accordance with our conditions of sale.

2 SWORDS, INCL. JAPANESE & FRENCH1st item: French or diplomat sword having a triangular engraved blade, brass handle with mother-of-pearl grip, and leather and brass scabbard. Brass handle features the coat of arms for Peru. Blade - 29 1/4" L. Overall - 35 1/4" L. 19th century. 2nd item: Japanese M-1914 Imperial Naval Officer's dress sword, possibly Formosa Command, with brown leather scabbard with fittings having engraved leaf and raised cherry blossom decoration. The D hilt with engraved leaf and raised cherry blossom decoration and wire wrapped sharkskin handle. Blade - 25" L. Overall - 30 3/4" L. 1st half 20th century. EARL E. COLLINS O/C MARINE PAINTING, SHOOTING STAR CLIP...Earl Edward Collins (Connecticut/New York, 1925-1992) oil on canvas maritime painting depicting the clipper ship "Shooting Star" sailing across turbulent waters, an American flag visible at the stern. Signed "Earl Collins" lower right. Handwritten index card with the history of "Shooting Star" and date of painting,1979, en verso of frame. Housed in a giltwood frame with black painted frieze, linen mat, and gilt filet. Sight: 19 3/4" H x 23 1/2" W. Framed: 27 1/2" H x 31 1/2" W. Note: The Shooting Star clipper ship was built by James. O. Curtis in Medford, Massachusetts. It was commanded by Captain Judah P. Baker and wrecked off of the coast of Formosa in 1867. It was considered one of the smallest and fastest clipper ships, completing a passage from New York to San Francisco in 105 days. MATTHAUS MERIAN, CHINA MAP, C.1649Matthaus Merian, Swiss, 1593-1650, c.1649, China Veteribus Sinarum Regio nunc Incolis Tame dicta , map of China and Japan is closely modeled on Jansson's map of 1633. The detail includes the eastern part of China (bounded in the west by the Great Wall), Korea as a strangely shaped island, and the three main islands of Japan. Taiwan is named Pakan al I. Formosa, although Tayoan is named on the island. The imaginary Chiamay Lacus is located in the southern region with five rivers flowing south into India and Siam. A fine title cartouche flanked by Chinese figures, flourishing calligraphy, European and Chinese ships and a sea monster decorate the map. Note: Consignor purchase map in 2002 from Altfield Gallery in Hong Kong
