Sebastien Le Prestre de Vauban (1633-1707), usually referred to as Vauban, was a French military engineer who worked for King Louis XIV (1638-1715). Vauban's work is highly regarded for its contribution to military history. He was the founder of the Corps royal des ingenieurs militaires which employed a curriculum based on his publications regarding strategy, training, and engineering design.
