AFTER FREDERIC REMINGTON
AFTER FREDERIC REMINGTON (1861-1909) THE CHEYENNEFeatured in this lot is this after Frederic Remington (1861-1909) The Cheyenne bronze sculpture. Frederic Sackrider Remington (October 4, 1861 – December 26, 1909) was an American painter, illustrator, sculptor, and writer who specialized in depictions of the American Old West. In 1901 Remington modeled this Cheyenne man racing on horseback, featuring a muscular rider and wearing a loincloth, he leans forward clutching a spear and a quirt. His mount is shown flying at a full gallop or "Burning the Air." This is a after Remington cast and would have been created post-mortem but is Signed on the bronze part of the base 'Frederic Remington.' The condition of this bronze sculpture shows a well preserved stature with a slight patina to the bronze but otherwise shows no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this bronze is 21" x 15" x 8 1/4". The collective weight of this bronze sculpture is 44lb 14oz.

FREDERIC SACKRIDER REMINGTON, 1861-1909, MOUNTAIN MANFrederic Sackrider Remington, 1861-1909 Mountain Man, Bronze resting on integral black stone plinth; bolted to wood pedestal Bronze Dimensions: Bronze: 27 1/2 x 18 x 10 in. (69.9 x 45.7 x 25.4 cm.), Overall height: 68 in. (172.7 cm.) Provenance: Frederic Remington's art is best known for paintings and sculptures depicting Amerca's Old West. Whether working alone, or with others, such as Owen Wister, Remington's paintings, sculptures, writings, and illustrations inspired an entire generation of readers and art aficionados. Many of his works were elegiac, an homage to an Old West that was rapidly disappearing. One striking accomplishment of Frederic Remington's art was the correct depiction of horses in motion.Frederic Remington bronze statues include The Bronco Buster, his first statue, which started the genre called cowboy sculpture. Over 275 authorized casts have been made of this small statue, by methods that include sand-casting and lost-wax casting. Only one of the 21 existing Frederic Remington sculptures, The Cowboy, is considered to be full-sized. Discerning collectors will find many fine examples of other legendary sculptures for sale or at auction online. Condition:

AFTER FREDERIC REMINGTON (AMERICAN, 1861 - 1909) 8 ½" x 7 ¾" x 3 ½" overall The Cheyenne. Cast bronze cabinet sculpture, signed in the base, attached to ¾"T rectangular verdigris marble base with name plate. In 1901 Remington modeled his Cheyenne Indian racing on horseback. The muscular rider, wearing only a loincloth and moccasins, leans forward, clutching a spear and a quirt. His mount is depicted at full gallop, or “burning the air,” as Remington described it: ears back, tail flowing, and all four hooves off the ground. The buffalo robe that serves as a saddle trails off the airborne horse to its right and functions as the means of linking figures to the base.
