SPRINGFIELD ARMORY TYPE II MODEL 1863 RIFLE MUSKET .58 caliber, 40 in. round barrel with single leaf rear sight, V/P/eagle head and 1864 date at breech; walnut stock with iron mounts and tulip head ramrod; the lockplate with an eagle over U.S. / SPRINGFIELD placed before the hammer and dated 1864 behind the hammer; inspectors' cartouche FWS (Frank W. Sanderson) and inspector's cartouche ESA (E.S. Allin) to rear of upper screw on the left side of stock; US on butt plate tang; sling swivels present.

* L.C. Smith Premier Skeet Grade Double-Barrel Shotgun 20 gauge 26'' barrels serial number 52257. Water table marked P skeet and FWS marked before serial number on the water table. London steel marked barrels and 2.75 chamber. 13.625'' LOP over period Jostam pad modified and improved cylinder chokes. One hunter trigger and auto ejectors. Fancy checkered wood buttstock beavertail forearm. See Brophy (1991: 116). Condition: Barrels retaining ca 95% blue finish with some thinning at the breech end ca 40% original case coloring thinning to a silvery grey. Bores are in excellent condition. Buttstock has a .25'' solid crack at the left side of the lower tang. Buttstock and forearm are excellent.

British percussion musket, full stock muzzle loading, shaped cheek rest, 41 in. barrel marked "1831" and "1837" with other marks, brass mounts, lockplate marked "FWSAUN(?)", stock stamped "CPFW(?)", trigger guard marked "C287(?)", probably a converted flintlock; no permit required. 30 percent original color, original stock with repairs, 4 in. pieced repair on forearm, scattered pitting and rust particularly at firing area. Collection of the Late Ruth Scott, Charlotte, North Carolina.
