Pencil-signed, dated, and numbered (AP VIII) to the bottom center cartouche, titled and signed with ink thumbprints below each drypoint impression. Crown Point Press (printer Patrick Foy) publisher's blind stamp to the bottom right. Matted behind glass but unframed.
Condition
The work is in very good condition. The bottom right corner of the glass is chipped.

Mark Miller (American, 1919-2008)
Mark Miller (American, 1919-2008) Gothic Romance illustration, possibly created for "Secret of Kensington Manner", inscribed on reverse "Gothic with Gate", gouache on (2) sheets mounted on illustration board, signed "Mark Miller", 26-5/8" x 17-1/4", good condition, horizontal seam between (2) sheets, a few stains on girl. Mark Miller was a prominent and prolific American illustrator in the Golden Age of illustration in the 1940s-1960s. He studied at the Chouinard Art Institute (now Cal Arts) and was hired as a wardrobe sketch artist for 20th Century Fox. He later became an advertising and magazine story illustrator with his work appearing in McCall?s, Good Housekeeping, Ladies Home Journal, Redbook, Cosmopolitan, Woman?s Day and Saturday Evening Post. Many of his works were handled by agencies in New York City including Charles E. Cooper, Harry Watts Inc., and American Artists Agency. He also created a partnership with artist Dan Crowley. In the 1960s he decided to set aside his art to become a winemaker. He was the founder of Benmarl Vineyards. All Illustrations are acquired from the artist?s collection.

GEORGE BARKER CITY GATES ST AUGUSTINE PHOTOPhotograph transparency on glass attributed to George Barker. These gates were built in 1808, and all traffic entering the city had to pass between them. The photo is 8" x 6"; the framed piece is 10-1/4" x 8". Photo print quality is excellent. The thin brass stamped frame has one missing and several bent decorative circles along the edge and has tarnished to a fairly even brown color.
