Fairman, from A New and Elegant General Atlas…, John Conrad & Co., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1804, counties named but not demarcated in eastern portion of state, western portion titled "Country of the Creek Indians", hand-colored engraving on laid paper, 8 x 10 in. (sight); matted in modern gilt wood frame. Light toning, smudges, fading, ink inscription lower right (possibly a page number), not examined out of frame; frame with abrasions. Private Collection.

Scattered stains, repairs and pest damage, panels with separations, normal wear and losses. Griffin notes state it was "found in home in Comer, Georgia, and descended in McWhirter family". It has the same history as the chest in Neat Pieces , catalogue No. 99.

Georgia Civil War letter, hand written on lined paper by J.M. Crawford, addressed to L.B. Fisher, dated April 23, 1861, "Look Out, Look Out, For War, For War", discusses the general atmosphere at school (probably Emory College) and in the towns of Oxford and Covington, Georgia, "I want to go with the boys and be among them when they touch the torches to the walls of the captured capitol, and shout the loud and long cheers to the flames as they consume its verry [sic] last remains", 12 x 7-3/4 in. Light toning, stains, creases, fading, minor tears and losses.

Georgia painted pie safe, yellow pine throughout, 12 punched tins with basket and foliage centering a star (appear to be undisturbed), mustard-brown painted surface over earlier blue(?), attributed to Georgia, 19th century, 48 x 39 x 17 in. Top and sides with scraped surface, hinges replaced with some associated breaks and losses, tins in good repair overall with some rust and corrosion (two side tins dented), normal surface cracks and wear throughout. Griffin notes record that it was "purchased from Martha Smith of Forest Park, Georgia, June 1980".

Early Georgia painted mantle surround, yellow pine throughout in early surface with traces of dark blue paint, probably Georgia, late 18th/early 19th century, 67 x 79 x 7 in. As-found condition with breaks and losses to top moldings, multiple paint histories, lacking one molding at fire surround, surface dirt, nail scars and other normal wear and flaws.
