ANTIQUE GERMAN TWO HAND BEARING SWORD, C. 1600German two hand Zweihander Bearing of Great Sword, c. 1600, 17th c., the double edge blade approx 41" from tip to parry hooks, black wrapped leather between the parry hooks and the 19" wide guard having 3" high double rings at both sides, the wood handle housing the blade tang is about 15.5" long from the guard to the pommel and appears to be wrapped in a linen or canvas like fabric and then covered with a black substance likely to insure a good grip, overall: approx 67.25"l, 19.25"w, 9.75lbs **Provenance: from a prominent Dallas, Texas estate. Purchased at Peter Finer Gallery, St. James, London**

One sword cannot be removed from scabbard. 37'' 39''l. overall. Lion - Pommel sword is stuck in scabbard (darker one). Other sword has slight wave (very minor) to blade. No s/n. No studs no bend in scabbard (repainted). Very nice condition.

RARE 16TH C. ZWEIHANDERA rare
RARE 16TH C. ZWEIHANDERA rare 16th century Lanzknechte “Zweihander” double edged sword. The quillions terminating with scaled demons, surmounted by large side rings, the parrying hooks showing a decorative edge. The grip has been replaced. Blade 35 inches (to the parrying hooks), overall length 62 inches. (Originally appraised by Sotheby’s in 1996). Note: The Landsknechte, were Germanic mercenaries used in pike and shot formations during the early modern period. Consisting predominantly of pikemen and supporting foot soldiers, their front line was formed by Doppelsöldner renowned for their use of the Zweihänder and arquebus.
