Sight size 10 1/2" x 19", overall 20" x 24". Provenance: New Bedford Whaling Museum deaccession. Gill is one of the best-known early Australian artists, who also pioneered professional photography, where he established a professional studio in Melbourne in 1842. He later would exhibit watercolors and drawings of Adelaide, had a studio in Melbourne, then Sydney, and then back to Melbourne.
