CONTINENTAL TAPESTRY WOVEN VALANCE, 237"LContinental tapestry woven valance, possibly for a canopy bed, likely French or Flemish, 17th/ 18th c., with singular figures holding a small mirror, alternating urns with fruit and floral branches, central courting couple in a landscape, displaying stitched slits where two color wefts meet, with metallic gold thread fringe, one end with worn silk damask, retaining lot tags of Gimbel Brothers, Broadway at 33rd Street, New York, valance: approx 22.5"h, 237"l (29" at one end not matching) **Note: Gimbels was a department store chain operating from 1887 to 1987. Its New York store opened in 1910. In the 1940s, the New York store hosted a series of auctions sale of art and antiquities including the William Randolph Hearst collection. The store was featured in the 1947 film "Miracle on 24th Street."**

FRANCO-FLEMISH GOTHIC OAK CUPBOARD15th Century and later, adapted. Rectangular, with an open upper section, the back with linenfold panels, the midsection with two iron-mounted hinged doors, carved with putti in circles, flanked by linen-fold panels above two carved cupboard doors, the sides fitted with linenfold panels, with stiles continuing down to form feet. Height 65 in., Witdh 47 in., Depth 14 in. (Cond: per above adaptation, top later, feet and back with worm damage, shelf later, losses) Accompanied by two document from Hammer Gallery and Gimbel Brothers. Provenance: Per Hammer Galleries, NY, Major Lambert, Audenarde, Belgium, through William Permin…, 1926, for William Randolph Hurst, thence to Hammer Galleries, later sold to Lester Ellerbrock, via Gimble Brothers, thence to the present owner.
