  PAIR OF 1778 PIRANESI ROMAN ARCHITECTURAL ENGRAVINGSTwo double-page engravings by Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778) from his Vasi, Candelabri, Cippi, Sarcofagi, Tripodi, Lucerne, ed Ornamenti Antichi (pub. 1778), depicting elements of classical Roman architecture and decorative arts. Each are nicely presented in gilt frames. The first is titled "A Sua Eccellenza Il Signor Aubreii Beauclerk..." (plate 72). The plate measures 26 1/2" x 17", in a frame that measures 35" x 25 1/2". The second is titled "Profilo di una Nave antica di marmo a tre ordini di remi..." (plate 105). The plate measures 25 3/4" x 16", and the frame measures 35" x 25". Provenance: The Webster House collection. Condition Each sheet is creased around the centerfold (as expected). There is a small amount of foxing to the top right corner of "A Sua Eccellenza". There is a small amount of overall toning to each sheet, commensurate with age.
