GERMAN SCREW-TOP JAR, ANNUNCIATION OF CHRIST, CA. 1800A German pewter screw-top canister (schraubflaschen), late 18th to early 19th century, engraved with a scene of the Annunciation of Jesus Christ to the shepherds. In the scene, an angel holds a scroll declaring "gloria in exelsis deo" above a reclining shepherd and two sheep. To the reverse of the canister is written "Zinn An denken." Above and below the center frieze are finely engraved linear patterns. Measures 8 1/2" x 4 1/2".
