SILVER DRESS CANECa. 1890-Large silver handle fashioned in a classic and well-proportioned Opera shape and decorated in the Neo Baroque taste with abundant, delicately hand chased scrolls, shells, blooms and flamboyant elements differently arranged on each side. Furthermore, the handle is personalized with three engraved flowery initials and struck with an “800” silver hallmark besides two unidentified makers marks. A secular interpretation of the Southern German prevalent religious Catholic sense of splendor of its day, this handle stands apart with its touch of excellence. It comes on a makassar ebony shaft and a horn ferrule and is only in need of some surface cleaning. 4” x 2 ¼”, O.L. 35 ½”

SILVER DRESS CANECa. 1890-Baroque T-shape silver handle modeled in a conventional with a widely formed body and asymmetrically curving ends, smooth partridge shaft and a metal ferrule. The handle is profusely hand chased and engraved with flamboyant scrolls, shells and other decorative elements as well as opulent flowers differently arranged on each side. In addition, the handle is personalized with the flowery initials of its first owner and struck with a “Half Moon and Crown” German hallmarks for silver beside an “800” for the precious metal title and n obscured maker’s mark. This cane was used and shows the right amount of wear to increase its appeal and not diminish its value. It galvanizes the essentials of quality and embodies the taste of the Romantic Era and the period of Friedrich II the Great also called “Der Alte Fritz” who was reputed for his interests in music, philosophy and arts. Friedrich, who fabled also for his love to walking sticks, was always portrayed wearing a different one. The type of handles he loved, which somehow similar to this example was even christened “Fritz Krücke” or Fritz Handle. H. 4 ½” x 3”, O.L. 37”

The head itself is in the symbolic taste of the period and with a spatial gaze and dreamy face as if the female personifies one of those mythical creatures with spiritual undertones of the Belgian artist Fernand Khnopf, for whom aesthetics tries to be the science of beauty. Quality and style are apparent in the profile of this handle with German hallmarks. It comes on a rosewood shaft and a bone ferrule. H. 4 ¾” x 1 ½”, O.L. 38 ½”

The handle is struck with three unidentified hallmarks on its short and wide neck, ends with a raised trailing beads collar and comes on a deep black shaft and a horn ferrule.
