Gorham Coin (.900) Silver Covered Butter Dish, ca. 1860, Providence, Rhode Island, the circular base with annulated rim and raised on three winged paw feet, the hemispherical lid with three engraved cartouches, two with coastal scenes, on an engine-turned ground surmounted by annulated toupee finial and opening to reveal a pierced butter plate over an ice reservoir, monogrammed, on the third cartouche, "F.A.B.", presumably for Frances Ashton (Brownson) Bisland (1833-1912), mistress of Aragon Plantation, Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, h. 5-1/2", dia. 7", 22.38 t. oz. Provenance: Gift of the Bisland family to the Terrebonne Historical and Cultural Society.
