MASSACHUSETTS SENATE CHAMBER CARVED MAHOGANY PEDESTAL D...mid to late 19th century, shaped top, blocked and paneled frieze, foliate mounted pilasters flanking a carved medallion depicting the Massachusetts state seal, kneehole configuration of drawers, interior collection label, 30-1/2 x 65-1/2 x 33-1/2 in.

Note: According to an "Old South Collection, 1876" label found inside one of the desk's drawers, this desk was used in the Massachusetts Senate Chambers by Governors John Albion Andrew (in office 1861-1866) and Roger Wolcott (in office 1897-1900).

structurally sound, lacking some original components including upper superstructure or gallery and base molding on proper right side, top with alterations and small repairs (likely originally had leather writing surface), later brasses, other general wear from age, use and alternation, sold as is

HEPPLEWHITE LADY'S DESK. Possibly the school of John and Thomas Seymour Boston Massachusetts 1795-1810 mahogany maple satinwood and pine. Two-piece desk the upper section with a long drawer over a central prospect flanked by tambour doors; the lower section with the fold-over writing surface over three drawers all on tapered legs. As-found condition. 46''h. 36''w. 18.5''d. 30''h. writing surface. Significant veneer buckling and cracking with a good amount of loss (though most of the losses are small pieces). Brasses appear older and in the original holes.

Fine New England Federal lady's desk, in two sections with highly figured bookmatched mahogany and light wood veneers with poplar, chestnut and white pine secondary, two tambour doors opening to fitted interior, book form document drawers centering tombstone inlaid prospect door, fold-down writing flap over three long dovetailed drawers, attributed to Connecticut, 1800-1810, 46-3/4 x 39 x 20 in. Restored with some rebuilding, some backboards and drawer supports and secondary elements replaced, brasses replaced, other rebuilding and restorations, minor finish wear and scattered flaws to veneers. Georgia historical desk and bookcase, highly figured mahogany veneers throughout, removable cornice, two gothic glazed doors opening to fitted and adjustable shelved interior, three dovetailed drawers with poplar secondary, one signed "W.J. Northern", fold-down writing flap with probably original leather, single long drawer over two paneled doors opening to shelved interior, shaped skirt, American, circa 1830s, 83 x 43-1/2 x 20-1/2 in.; accompanied by two keys. Old refinishing with surface wear, separations and abrasions, brass pulls replaced, minor cracks to glazed doors, other veneer chips, cracks and abrasions. Accompanying documents indicate that this desk was owned by Georgia Governor W.J. Northern, who served as governor from 1890-1894. Scattered surface stains and abrasions, minor patches and repairs to veneers and cockbeading, writing leaf somewhat warped, some sun fading, original feet and skirt with some patches and repairs including face patches to rear brackets, brasses replaced with cente holes from original pulls visable inside drawers. FEDERAL BOSTON MAHOGANY BOX DESK ON FRAME. Ca. 1800, Boston, an inlaid mahogany box desk on frame, the desk has a hinged fold-down lid that opens to a green felt writing surface. The writing surface has double hinged lids, which expose open 'well' type storage compartments, with three three small dovetailed drawers above. Desk box is raised on on frame with a single full length drawer and double tapered legs with banded cuff inlays.
