16th century Venetian School painting, the Holy Family with saints, Pope Gregory, Cardinal Jerome and Bishop Augustine, oil on canvas, late 16th/early 17th century, 36-3/8 x 39-1/4 in.; fine and possibly original contemporary late 16th/early 17th century Venetian carved and gilt wood plate frame with fruit and leaf sight molding, tendril-decorated frame with lion corners, frame plate with attribution to Tintoretto. Lined with coarse fabric and glue, retouch in Jesus and in some areas of flesh scattered throughout at bottom, crackle, cupping, cleavage, flaking at edges, abrasions, small nail holes at left edge, patches upper right, light areas cleaned, weave emphasis caused during lining; frame with losses to carving and gilding, pest damage, abrasions.
