TORTOISESHELL AND GOLD DAGGER
TORTOISESHELL AND GOLD DAGGER CANECa. 1880-Solid tortoiseshell handle fashioned in a well-proportioned L-shape and embellished with equally spread yellow gold stars as well as an escutcheon engraved with the “NS” initials of the first cane’s owner, matching gold collar, ebony shaft and a brass ferrule. Notable is the translucency of the tortoiseshell and its warm colors, testifying for high-grade material. The cane breaks under the collar in two parts through a simple but efficient friction lock device to release a 9 ½” tall steel blade, forged and beautifully tooled in six equally long registers adorned with etched stars, x’s and dots to end with a plain and tapering, dart-like tip. Striking visual presence and understated elegance with a discerning style that make it unique, this cane pays tribute to the recognized French skills and presents a far-reaching redefinition of the dagger cane. H. 6” x 2 ½”, O.L. 37 ½”

KPM FIGURAL PORCELAIN CANE-Ca
KPM FIGURAL PORCELAIN CANE-Ca 1850 -Large porcelain KPM Berlin (Royal Porcelain Manufacture) handle modeled in an asymmetrically bent, early Baroque shape and adorned by the head of a woman. -Freestanding at the front, the head comes with a frill collar and tiny bonnet with ribbons over a “Tête de Mouton” or “Sheep’s Head” hairstyle with defined twists of curls arranged in rows across the front and each side of the head. The coiffure builds a frame for a round face covered in greater part with a lace veil and still shows pouting lips and mercury pastes white complexions with pink patches, conforming to 18th century ladyship ideals of beauty. -The voluminous body of the handle is modeled in shallow relief with scrolls and shells all highlighted with plenty of blooms and a wealth of rich gold moriage to surround a genre scene with two courting couples in an idyllic garden landscape. -The portraiture is breathtaking, executed in micro detail down to single strings of the veil and in superb and vivid colors. -This landmark porcelain handle was modeled by Friedrich Elias Meyer for KPM around 1760 and is recorded to have been produced over 150 years. Notable is that the older examples, like this particular one, were the largest and with sharper modeling detail. -From earth to fire, this fragile legacy brilliantly survived the test of time intact and with its entire sparkle. Indeed, the handle reflects all the seductive powers of the vitrified material and representative for a period when porcelain was reserved to the very few. It comes with a well-chased metal collar on a high-grade malacca shaft with pronounced ridge and an iron ferrule. -Loaded with the essential mix of quality, rarity, aesthetic appeal this cane is porcelain art at its best and has the crossover appeal of associating with more than one collecting field to augment its value and increase its desirability. -H. 4 ½” x 3 ¾”, O.L. 35 ¾” -$1,800-$2,500 -The white gold of the KPM, Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur, has been made in Berlin for the last 250 years. Friedrich the Great christened the Royal Porcelain Manufacturers in the year 1763 and gave it the famous blue scepter as a trademark. From this time onwards, the name KPM has stood for the most perfectly crafted, highest-quality porcelain and became great fame for its splendid modeling and colorful decoration. -Friedrich Elias Meyer Sen. (* around 1723 in Erfurt; † October 2, 1785 in Berlin), was a German sculptor and porcelain modeler in the Rococo period. He created numerous models for the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory, but came to fame when he became head of the art department at the Royal Porcelain Manufactory in Berlin.

JEWELED ROC CRYSTAL KNOB-Ca. 1900
JEWELED ROC CRYSTAL KNOB-Ca. 1900 -Large Roc crystal knob fashioned of a pure stone in a reversed pear shape and engraved with twenty-six four-leaf clover equally spread on its surface. The leaves are precisely wheel cut into the background in a shallow relief and clearly delineated outlines. A frosted surface centered by turquoise cabochons make them easily perceptible on the smooth and polished surface of the knob. -Distinctively different and packed with luxury and exclusivity, the knob comes with a high grade metal collar also lavishly set with turquoise cabochons and few facetted garnet ones on a snake wood shaft and a horn ferrule. -This mascot cane is hard to beat for rarity, ingenious design and crossover appeal. It is an outstanding example of the clover-famed motifs that have become icons of fin de siècle Parisian art scene. The closer you look at it the better you realize the outstanding workmanship. -Notable is that the photography of roc crystal knobs and handles is a great challenge and will never render the entire sparkle and magic of this hard stone. -In any event, this cane has all the charm and radiation a collector’s soul loves and is gifted with refinement and culture. Furthermore, it has a good feel in your palm and I am sure it would turn many heads as well. -H. 4 x 2”, O.L. 43 ¼” -$3,000-$4,000 -Once believed to be ice, which had been frozen so long that it could never melt and had turned into stone, roc crystal is a natural crystalline quartz, which is usually colorless and transparent. Carved roc crystal was highly prized during the renaissance period, and in the 19th and 20th centuries, it was used for cameos, seals facetted jewelry and high-end cane handles. -A clover with a leaf that is divided into four parts rather than the usual three is thought to bring good luck to anyone who finds it. -For ever an Arabian religious symbol, the shamrock or clover was also adopted by Christians and it is today one of the most common good luck symbols of the Western world. Anyone lucky enough to be in possession of a clover with four leaves has consequently a piece of the blessed Paradise. -The most shared belief is that the four leaves represent hope, faith, love and luck, while others wants it for fame, wealth, love and health. -It was occasionally used in canes, part of the wider 19th century interest in symbolism and sentimentality.
