A late 19th century French grand
A late 19th century French grand sonnerie carriage alarm clock with enamelled Roman dial incorporating subsidiary seconds and alarm selector signed Le Roy et fils Palais Royale 13 - 15 Paris 211 Regent Street London quarter repeating movement striking on a bell Gde / silent/ Pte sonnerie selector under base plate 5.75in. Estimate ?500-700 Some minor oxidisation pits to case which appear to have the original finish and not to have been re-gilded typical edge wear on the handle and other protruding surfaces repeater but worn escapement looks original dial with fine hairline cracks running from the right side into 1.30 and 4 o'clock further tiny U shaped edge cracks in the top right corner trace of further hairline cracking running from left side just below 9 o'clock and in towards the centre hands and enamelling and lettering all look original movement going and appears to be in good clean order hammers have been bent out of alignment quarters do not hit the bell movement numbered lower left 1156 which matches case numbers repairers label for The Clock Shop of Barnstaple under base comes with key. SUPERB FRENCH ORMOLU CLOCK SET BY RAINGOAn exquisite 19th century gilt bronze and hand decorated porcelain 3 piece French clock set. The center clock is 20 in wide and 20 in high (5.5 in deep) with a 3.5 inch porcelain dial signed RAINGO FRES A PARIS. There are several hand painted medallions with cherubs, flowers, young woman etc. Comes with matching pair of 3 arm floriform candelabra having trifid legs and painted genre scenes of 2 young women on front and flowers on back. They are 23 in tall and 8 in across base. Brass movement signed Raingo. The clock ticks and strikes on the 1/2 and full hour and comes with pendulum and key. Condition: : Excellent overall with one crack to a curved porcelain side panel on the base of clock. No wear to gilding or damage to metal. NOTE: Raingo Freres was founded in 1823. The origins of the company Raingo Frères lie with Zacharie Joseph Raingo (1775 – 1847), a clock-maker, who was born in Belgium. In the 1860s, the firm supplied several clocks and bronzes to Emperor Napoleon III and his wife Empress Eugenie. The firm exhibited at the most important Exhibitions of the second half of the 19th century, winning a gold award at the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris.
