Signed "D.Ati 1959" in the lower left bottom corner. Framed. With COA. Dr. Atl (Mexican, 1875-1964) born Gerardo Murillo in Guadalajara, was a painter, writer, and one of the major figures in the Mexican art revolution who promoted other influential artists, such as Diego Rivera (Mexican, 1886-1957). He changed his name to Dr. Atl (meaning “Doctor Water” in Nahuatl) in 1902 to reinforce his Mexican identity.
