LARGE KERMIT EWING O/C PAINTING, ROAD TO GRENADA SPAINCharles Kermit Ewing (Tennessee, 1910-1976) large oil on canvas painting titled "Road to Grenada, Spain" depicting a rocky landscape with sparse buildings and a bridge traversing the water. Signed lower left. Titled, signed, and dated Sept. 1966, en verso. Housed in a painted carved wooden frame. Sight: 39 3/4" x 29 5/8" H x 39 3/4" W. Framed: 40" H x 50" W. 3" D. Biography (Courtesy Peter Falk, "Who Was Who in American Art"): Charles Ewing was a Pennsylvania-born painter, teacher, and lithographer. He studied at Carnegie Mellon University, Harvard, and the University of Iowa with Jean Charlot. He was a member of art associations in Pittsburgh, Atlanta and New Rochelle, and in 1938, exhibited at the National Academy of Design. He served as art consultant for the Tennessee Valley Authority and, from 1948 until his retirement, was head of the art department at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
Condition:
One area of light craquelure upper left. Partial wax relining visible en verso, measuring 11" L. Scattered inpainting across the upper boarder and in sky area. Frame with minor losses.
