FIVE NYMPHENBURG PORCELAIN MIILTARY FIGURES, 'SOLDATEN'FIVE NYMPHENBURG PORCELAIN MIILTARY FIGURES, 'SOLDATEN', 20th Century, green printed and impressed Bavarian shield marks, impressed model nos. 938, 188, 745, 773 and 778, various impressed numerals, some based on designs by Hanns Goebl, comprising a West Point Cadet, an equestrian figure and three pre-Napoleonic Bavarian soldiers, each wearing dress uniform, on an oval domed base edged with gilt scroll, one soldier identified on the underside as a Bayern Grenadier, the flag bearer is identified in German on the reverse as an ensign from Basel and the equestrian figure is identified on his helmet and base as a member of the Bayern Schevaulerger Regiment, h. 12.25 in. PORTRAIT OF A FRENCH RESTORATION PERIOD ARMY OFFICER DATED 1823 Colonel of the French Grenadiers Garde Nationale, oil on canvas on the original continental stretcher, signed illegibly and dated 1823 center left, his red hair with long sideburns, blue eyes fixed on the viewer, Grenadier's gorget around his neck, dark blue jacket with red collar and piping, silver epaulettes and buttons, Order of Fidelity medal (restored by Louis XVIII post 1815) on his breast, top of sword handle showing having silver cord. Housed in what may be the orginal lemon gold matched corner cove frame, OS: 26" x 22", SS: 21 1/4" x 17 1/4", cleaned and relined.

Two cartes de visite of Civil War
Two cartes de visite of Civil War Admiral John Adolphus Bernard Dahlgren (1809-1870), developer of the "Dahlgren gun" naval cannon and other ordnance and, at sea, commander of the South Atlantic Blockading Squadron which helped General William Tecumseh Sherman capture the city of Savannah. One, by C. D. Fredricks & Co. of New York, Havana and Paris, bears his photograph, while the other, by Mathew Brady's firm of Washington and New York, bears his coat of arms. The handwritten name Dahlgren is below the coat of arms, but this does not particularly resemble Dahlgren's own signature.

Six boxed sets of Britains lead soldiers comprising The Royal marines no.35 The Royal Marines no.97 British Infantry no.195 two sets of Grenadier Guards (Great Coats) no.312 Colours & Pioneers of the Scots Guards no.82 Estimate ?250-350 The Colours and Pioneers set - all with some slight chips or wear to paint nothing serious but essentially lead figures are good box with general light wear. Grenadier Guards - all with some minor chipping or wear to the paint one with slightly larger spot to the headdress and the first guard in the left of the box with much of the green paint chipped on the bas box with some scuffs and some surface loss to the label and one tear. Second Grenadier Guards set in brighter box with much more yellow to label box in much fresher condition and the lead figures are in brighter condition with only nominal loss to paint however one of the rifles has broken at the wrist on one of the figures. British Infantry No.195 - minor paint chipping but essentially good box with light scuffs and wear. Royal Marines no.97 - some paint chips and losses but essentially good box with very nominal wear. Royal Marines no.35 - some nominal and chipping wear to paint nothing overly serious box with some slight knocks and freying along edges but essentially fair. An unusually lengthy appeal to service by Benjamin Franklin Chief of Detective Police Mayor's Office Philadelphia including testimonials to the character of the men already enlisted (dated February 1865) and a detailed breakdown of the pay. 12 x 19 in. housed in two-sided frame 14.75 x 22.25 in. overall. Condition: Scattered stains chipping at edges and separation at fold lines.
