DWAYNE WARWICK, (AMERICAN, 21ST CENTURY), WOMAN IN THE GARDEN, IMPRESSIONIST SCENE PAINTING, GOUACHE ON PAPER, 8 1/2"H X 9"W (IMAGE) 16 1/4"H X 16 1/4"W (FRAME)Dwayne Warwick, (American, 21st Century) woman in the garden, impressionist scene painting, gouache on paper signed lower right. Of his work, Springfield, Tennessee artist Dwayne Warwick states: "I think most people perceive artists' painting with the same ease and effortlessness that a singer sings. For me, painting continues to be a battle. It's like going to a destination on a tight wire – the purpose of the trip is overshadowed by the struggle to stay on the wire." In viewing Dwayne Warwick's paintings, it is difficult to imagine such struggling. The ease and grace of lines and forms unite with warm and glowing light reminiscent of 17th century Dutch painters. Warwick's watercolors reflect a classical feeling which he says is inspired by the Old Masters. "I owe much to Charles Ambrose of the University of Southern Mississippi. While his drawing tutelage disciplined my technique, it was his art history classes which fostered my interest in the classical art of past centuries." Studying from books and museums, Warwick developed an interest and challenge in being a student of traditional methods of painting. "The notes of Bach and Beethoven are available for music students, but the Old Masters left no records of their painting methods and formulas. The real knowledge of traditional painting is not widespread," notes Warwick. Even without the recipes of the masters, Warwick's work is certainly a fine attempt at recreation. Dwayne Warwick's collection at Stravitz Art Gallery gouache on paper Dimensions: 8 1/2"H x 9"W (image) 16 1/4"H x 16 1/4"W (frame)

US Pre- Civil War Pattern 1847
US Pre- Civil War Pattern 1847 Grimsley Dragoon Saddle Ca 1850s. Copper nameplate in horn section reads Earle A. Royce Willsboro New York. Saddle measures 19.75'' from pommel to cantle. Leather in the seat section of the saddle is a period replacement and is void of its original quilted pattern. This was common practice to replace the quilted padded leather since by its inherent nature the padded leather did not have a long lifespan. Brass furniture throughout. Thornton Grimsley was a saddle maker in St. Louis MO. These saddles had deep-seated trees and a very high cantle that were inspired by Spanish/Mexican saddles that were popular at the time. Grimsley saddles were used by General U.S. Grant General Thomas Sherman and General Robert E. Lee. [See Caba 1982: 35-45. See also Dorsey and McPheeters 1999: 19-21.] Condition: Very good. Lacking one brass rivet on front of pommel otherwise leather is supple and is complete.
