Anonymous British Painting of a Man Reading An amusing narrative painting on board depicting a bewigged man in 18th century garments reading a newspaper entilted "Spectator" seated before a table on which sits an empty candlestick. He holds the candle before him in order to see better igniting his tricorn hat. Apprx. 8" x 5-5/8" unsigned framed in a wide gilt decorative frame overall apprx. 14-1/4" x 12-1/4". Has a Rowlandson-like cartoonish character. French gallery sticker on the verso of the frame.
