Shelf Clock ca. 1888 Apprx. 25-3/4"H x 15-1/2"W x 4-1/4"D walnut veneered case with hinged door with two glass panels; the upper in rolled glass the lower with an eglomise design painted wood face with Roman numerals coil chime pendulum printed paper back of case with instructions and information. Hand written in pencil on the spline between the two glass panels of the inside door "A. A. **on Jr. May 16 1888". Prov: from the collection of Frederick Hale McDuff.

A Silas Hoadley Shelf Clock With solid scrolled splat quarter round applied stenciled columns flanking a painted wooden dial with Arabic numerals double panel door with clear rolled glass above mirrored glass below diamond shape inset key escutcheon. Sides of the case painted. Partial paper printed maker's label and directions inside now covered with plexi panels. Running but will need adjustments. Comes with weight pendulum winder. Silas Hoadley (1786-1870) apprenticed as a carpenter to his uncle Calvin Hoadley. In 1809 he formed a clock-making partnership with Eli Terry and Seth Thomas as Terry Thomas & Hoadley located in Plymouth Connecticut. The partnership eventually faded with the others forming their own firms and Hoadley continued on his own making clocks until 1849.
