LARGE CASED MODEL OF THE CELEBRATED
LARGE CASED MODEL OF THE CELEBRATED 19TH CENTURY RACING YACHT AMERICA 20th century, as she appeared while serving under arms in the federal blockade of Southern ports during the Civil War; painted and stained woods throughout, the model is raised on a walnut cradle over a conforming base having an engraved name plate and glass cover.

SHIP MODEL OF RACING YACHT "AMERICA" Painted wood with mahogany deck and coppered hull, full sails set, mounted on stand. 41" x 49" x 8", fine condition.
Per Wiki: "America was a 19th-century racing yacht and first winner of the America's Cup international sailing trophy. On August 22, 1851, America won the Royal Yacht Squadron's 53-mile regatta around the Isle of Wight by 18 minutes. "
Built by George Steers & Co for $30,000, launched in May of 1851.

American School 20th c. "Holding the Floor" oil on canvas initialed "B.P." and dated "37" lower right 24 in. x 22 in. unframed. Note: In 1937 the Southern Negro Youth Congress was established by young people who had attended the1936 National Negro Congress in Chicago and wanted to implement its call for action. These young leaders including veteran activists James Jackson Edward Strong Helen Gray and Esther Cooper gathered in Richmond Virginia and formed the first headquarters of SNYC. In 1939 the organization would move its headquarters to Birmingham Alabama.
