Small area (approx. 1/4 x 2 in.) of discoloration to foot ring. Five small star cracks to base. Minor scratches to transfer and enamel.

Black transfer printed creamware pitcher attributed to herculaneum pottery, early 19th century Of elongated ovoid form, decorated with floral swag above "E Pluribus Unum" or great American Seal, with ring of sixteen states, "Washington-Map of the United States (McCauley No. 58) and floral reserve enclosing "Woodward Abraham Senr" above figure of Hope under spout. H: 11 1/2 in. PROVENANCE: William Kurau, Lampeter, Pennsylvania note: This pitcher may have belonged to Woodward Abraham Sr., of Marblehead Massachusetts. Born in 1731 Abraham married Tabitha Smithers of Salem in 1756. A son also named Woodward, was born in 1762. Allover discoloration and crazing. Restoration to foot. Hairline (approx. 2 in.) at rim on ''Seal'' side. Hairline to interior at handle approx. 3 in. Restoration to spout with some inpainting. Possible restoration to rim (does not fluoresce under UV)
